Interval Training On The Elliptical
How effective is the elliptical machine for fat burning and cardio training?
It feels like I'm working really hard, my heart rate goes way up and I sweat. And even though the machine asks my weight at the beginning of the workout, I'm not sure I trust the amount of calories it claims I've burned, even if I do work really hard. How accurate is it? It seems to overestimate. I know machines can often be off quite a bit. Is there a way to make it more accurate, say by entering a lighter weight?
I use the machine in intervals- fast/high level "sprints" followed by moderate/regular level recovery periods.
And for that matter, how accurate/inaccurate are the "handles" that "measure" heart rate?
Okay, that answers the calorie part but nothing else...
I, too, find the calorie counter to be a bit high. When I count my food calories and keep track of the "Calories Burned" at the end of the week It flat out does not match! The scale and the machine are often times 5 to 11 pounds apart.! Granted, I'm losing weight, just not as much as the machines says.
I have a wrist monitor that I wear and the handles on my machine are within a beat or so of my wrist monitor, so i would say they are pretty accurate.
That's a good routine you have, keep it up.
