Elliptical Trainer Precor
How to correctly use an elliptical trainer like the precor?
This applies to the elliptical machines with the stationary handlebars. I was wondering how to position yourself on the elliptical and how you are suppose to exercise on it. How do people normally do it? Do they bounce up and down? How are you suppose to position yourself on it when you are going pretty fast?? About 245 rpm???
One more thing. Is there a WRONG way to use this machine? Can you use it so that you stress your spine????? That it is bad for your spine?

I've only been using the Precor elliptical for a short while, so I'm not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt....
Are you talking about putting your weight onto the handle bars? I think it's best not to. The workout is mainly focused on your legs and glutes, so I try to keep myself upright as possible, and just lightly rest my hands on the rails to keep balance.
As for bouncing...there is a natural up/down motion, but you shouldn't be pushing "up" (intentionally trying to bounce). My understanding is that it's best to keep it as smooth as possible.
As for rpms, I'm usually right around 100, sometimes up to 125 when increasing my intensity for short segments. 245 sounds really quite fast. Maybe you could try increasing the incline, instead of your speed?
